Our 1st vacancy is on the south coast, just east of Brighton:

Do you want to enjoy being a great GP vet, in a practice where you can stroll down to the beach during your lunch break (which we insist you take), with no financial targets or out-of-hours work? Then join The Mewes Vets as we grow our small village vet clinics in Rottingdean and nearby Peacehaven.

In our first 18 months in Rottingdean, we are already an RCVS-accredited practice, were shortlisted in the BestUK Vets awards, and have registered over 700 clients. Our Peacehaven clinic opened more recently – you can still smell the paint!

We are looking for a vet with some experience to join our existing team. We can accommodate colleagues who need full-time or part-time hours. We do insist that everyone in our team does at least one evening clinic per week (but only until 6:30pm) and just 1:3 Saturday mornings (until 12.30pm).
We need a vet colleague looking to settle down and enjoy building close bonds with their clients and patients. This is a GP position to be based on the coast, for first opinion work for cats, dogs and small furries, so we need someone interested in excellent communication whilst consulting, and in performing routine surgical procedures.

We have one consulting room in Rottingdean, with its operating theatre and small hospital. Plus our newly opened site in Peacehaven with four consulting rooms, large theatre and prep / hospital area.

We have digital radiography, an ultrasound scanner, in house laboratory, including microscopy, and air conditioning. We already employ 3 vets, 3 RVNS, with another on maternity leave, and 2 more joining us shortly, plus a team of receptionists.
As the only independent GP vets in the Brighton BN postcode and Peacehaven we are establishing an excellent reputation and building our client list all the time.

Our 2nd vacancy is in Haywards Heath

Do you want to work in a well established extremely busy GP practice surrounded by lovely colleagues?

Then join us as we grow our clinic in Haywards Heath. The Mewes Vets opened in Haywards Heath in 1996 and has built into a multi award-winning, RCVS-accredited practice, with a reputation for being a great place to work.

Many of our team members are extremely long-standing. We were crowned Best Vets in West Sussex in 2021, and in the top 25 in the UK in 2019, 2020 and 2023, and shortlisted in 2024. This could be down to our “one pet, one vet” policy – meaning every time a client visits, they’ll see a familiar face, ensuring continuity of care for patients and allowing us to build strong bonds with both them and their owners, while also helping to make the practice a lovely place to work in.

We are looking for a part-time vet with some experience to join our existing team. We do insist that everyone in our team does at least one evening clinic per week (until 7:30pm) and just 1:3 Saturday mornings (until 12.30pm).
We need a vet colleague looking to settle down and enjoy building close bonds with their clients and patients. This is a part-time, mainly consulting GP position to be based in Haywards Heath, for first opinion work for cats, dogs and small furries, so we need someone interested in excellent communication whilst consulting.

We have 4 consulting rooms (one newly built in 2024), and 2 operating theatres.
We have digital radiography, an ultrasound scanner, in house laboratory, including microscopy, and air conditioning. We already employ 5 vets, 8 RVNS, with another on maternity leave, plus a team of receptionists.
A possible multi-site option

We would be keen to talk to a colleague who might enjoy working some of their days in Haywards Heath, and some on the coast. This could work well for a person living between Lewes and Brighton.

Notes re both sites:
We encourage everyone to be the best they can be, and to follow their own dreams and goals, while enjoying the autonomy to make the best decision for each patient without the need to worry about targets.
We work hard on our “one pet, one vet” policy – meaning every time a client visits, they’ll see a familiar face, ensuring continuity of care for patients and allowing us to build strong bonds with both them and their owners, while also helping to make the practice a lovely place to work in.
Please note that we cannot regularly accommodate staff pets on site.
There are no out-of-hours as this will be outsourced to another clinic 20 minutes away. If we run late, which is unusual, any overtime is paid – you are not expected to work overtime for free. You will be encouraged to develop and maintain a good work-life balance, and overtime is not the norm here.
Sorry, but we cannot support colleagues from abroad to achieve visas or MRCVS status.

We are offering:
– a salary of £41,600 to £70,000 for a full time colleague, pro-rata for a part-time colleague, before overtime and bonuses, depending on your level of experience and any further qualifications.
– five weeks’ holiday plus bank holidays.
– a £2,000 annual CPD allowance for both full-time and part-time vets, with study towards an appropriate certificate supported and funded.
– professional fees paid for.
